Measuring Listening Comprehension and Predicting Language Development in At-Risk Preschoolers

Listening comprehension involves the ability to understand and extract meaning from spoken sentences, stories, instruction. This skill is vital for young children has long-term effects on school achievement, employability, income, participation in society. There a lack of measures children’s listening skills. We report new measure (LURI) that we tested group at-risk preschoolers. Using IRT (Item Response Theory) analysis, examined psychometric properties instrument. Moreover, series regressions, found LURI predicted range other language skills better than standardized measures. Thus, test reliable valid comprehension. Assessing time-effective way measuring critically important development represents product different oral processes.
